The Human Factors and User Experience Design Manager will provide technical leadership to a team of HF+UXD engineers within the global HF+UXD team that is part of the Medication Delivery Solutions (MDS) Center of Excellence (COE). The goal of the COE is to stimulate and lead concept and technology innovation spanning multiple product platforms. The role of HF+UXD within this group is to bring knowledge and expertise in user-centered design that begins with the initiation of programs and transitions into design and development.
The responsibilities can include but are not limited to:

• Global Collaboration within MDS cross functional and HF+UXD teams to help drive a growth mindset that includes best practices in user experience design and human factors engineering.
• Leadership Responsibility and Oversight for the development and deliverables execution of a team in HF+UXD engineers focused on the areas of design, user research, and human factors.
• Usability Planning & Execution to ensure HF+UXD deliverables for key program are appropriately scaled and resources in partnership with global HF+UXD site leads and businesses.
• Design Creation & Execution of physical and digital concepts as both an individual contributor and coach/mentor by way of hands-on iterative prototyping that starts with brainstorming, grows from low to high fidelity concepts, and end with manufacturable products.
• Usability Testing including generative, formative, and summative human factors validation testing with ability to create and execute usability plans, interview/discussion guides, note taking forms, participant agreements, screeners, and reports using quantitative and qualitative research and analysis methods.
• Human Factors & Ergonomics Assessment including utilization of anthropometry, biomechanics, and human capability data as well as literature, competitive, or legacy product review, expert review, and heuristic analysis.
• User Needs and Requirements distillation from voice of customer and observational data to testable requirements that can undergo design validation.
• User Risk Analysis including root cause analysis of usability deliverables and testing that aim to mitigate risk as part of a user-centered design process.
• Human-System Interface Design & Development including creation and update of user profiles, environmental characterization, workflow mapping, task analysis, functional modeling, use cases / scenarios, and physical and/or digital user interface design.
• Usability Engineering File support for new product development and sustaining or legacy products including but not limited to executing deliverables and closing gaps as part of euMDR.
• HF+UXD Site Leadership in Bangalore ensuring that the HF+UXD culture drives to encourage a speak up culture that consists of collaboration, desire to improve, and constructive challenge to arrive at superior innovative user-centered solutions.

Qualifications:

• 4 years bachelor's degree in a technical or user-centered design field (mechanical engineering, industrial design, or human computer interaction preferred). An advanced degree is desired.
• A minimum of 12+ years of post-educational professional experience in a user-centered design role (medical device preferred).
• At least 2 years of experience leading/managing onsite teams (direct reports preferred).
• Working knowledge of applicable standards and industry guidance for medical devices and usability engineering including IEC 62366-1, FDA Guidance for Human Factors (2016), ISO 13485, FDA Guidance for Design Controls, and ISO 14971
• Experience working closely with remote and onsite cross-functional team members as well as outside HF+UXD partners to create and execute usability deliverables.
• Experience designing, executing, and analyzing usability studies (moderating usability studies in the United States or in other countries around the globe preferred).
• Experience translating HF+UXD findings into user-needs/requirements, user risk, and design solutions related to the user interface.
• Proficient in at least one of the following to support innovation, design, and development:
  • Sketching or Graphic Design
  • 3D Modeling and Drafting (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Wire Fame and Digital Prototyping (Adobe XD and Axure preferred)
  • Technology Development in areas such as but not limited to Mechanical, Electrical, or Software Engineering
• Demonstrated creation of new concepts and Intellectual Property (IP)
• Distinguished proficiency in English demonstrating skillful, accurate, efficient, and effective written and verbal communication skills, with ability to present complex ideas to multiple levels
